There is a great article in the Vancouver Sun about the Anti-Asian riots that took place and the progress that has been made since then:
On a muggy September evening a century ago, nearly 9,000 people marched to Vancouver’s city hall under a banner calling “For a White Canada.”
The mob swarmed the building on Sept. 7, 1907, to listen to speeches decrying the moral and economic impact of a growing Asian population, and to demand an immediate end to immigration from China, Japan and India.
“Rev. Dr. Fraser said he was body and spirit with the movement, as he almost felt that unless some steps were taken to stop the influx his own pulpit would soon be in the hands of a Jap or a Chinaman,” the Daily News-Advertiser reported the next day.
